Artist Statement – Music has been in my blood since birth as both my father and grandfather were professional singer songwriters. I believe that my passion started watching both of my parents as they would casually sing… all of the time! I knew then that music was my life… I just wasn’t sure of the path that I was going to take. I’ve since been very fortunate to have had experiences performing for a United States president and for an audience of approximately two million.
My musical approach is similar to how a painter may approach a blank canvas. I’m always in search of the right combination of foreground, middle ground and background. It becomes a delicate balance between a varied palette which derives from my psyche and a fictitious element that pushes ever so slightly outside of reality. It’s often a ride that requires both a seat belt and a helmet but oh so enjoyable.
I find that being a bassist really fits who I am as a person. I’m always evaluating the vibe, ready to adapt to changes at a moment’s notice yet keeping everything grounded and in sync. Still, I love playing bass as a lead instrument where I have the opportunity to put the audience at the edge of their seat. The melodic, harmonic and rhythmic content (the sound in my head) is developed from a deep understanding of all that surrounds me.
Today, I’m stretching the boundaries within music technology with regards to the speed of composition, production and distribution. For me, tying music and technology together is simply natural.
